The 42mm two-wing enhanced PDC anchor drill bit installs rock bolt holes through the harder end of coal measure roof strata — interbedded siltstone, fine sandstone, and carbonaceous mudstone with compressive strength of 60-120 MPa. The 42mm diameter produces holes for M39 or M40 expansion shell rock bolts, the standard anchor diameter in Chinese coal mine gate road support systems for medium-to-strong roof conditions.
The 'enhanced' designation distinguishes this bit from standard two-wing PDC anchor bits by adding a second row of PDC cutters behind the primary cutting row on each blade. In standard anchor bits, the primary cutter row wears down on the abrasive cutting edge within 30-50 holes in siltstone, and the blade back begins contacting the hole wall rather than cutting it — this causes rapid bit body wear and hole deviation. The backup cutter row maintains cutting action as primary cutter wear progresses, extending service life to 60-80 holes per bit in 80-100 MPa siltstone sequences.
Two-wing geometry maintains the open junk slot configuration critical for cuttings clearance in 42mm holes. Junk slot width on enhanced bits is designed to accommodate both the additional PDC cutter material on each blade and the increased cuttings volume generated by the backup cutter row — any reduction in junk slot cross-section at this diameter would cause packing and bit seizure in sticky mudstone.
Primary applications: roof bolt hole installation in gate roads with hard mudstone or siltstone roof at compressive strengths 60-120 MPa, intersection corners where roof strata dip and fold create localized hard bands that defeat standard anchor bits early, and transition zones from coal to rock where the bit encounters alternating soft-hard layers within a single bolt hole depth. This bit also suits rib bolt installation in gate roads requiring side-wall support.
Recommended parameters: WOB 6-10 kN, RPM 400-700. The enhanced construction handles higher WOB than standard anchor bits — in hard siltstone above 80 MPa, increasing WOB to the upper end of this range (8-10 kN) reduces drilling time per hole by 20-30% compared to the lower WOB approach required with standard bits. Water flush at 10-15 L/min for dust control and cutter cooling.
