Connection Operating Instructions for ADMT Groundwater Detector

Jan 11,2026

This guide provides concise instructions for establishing a USB connection and configuring core parameters for the ADMT-ZN series underground water detector. Proper setup is crucial for accurate data collection.
Connection Operating Instructions for ADMT Groundwater Detector

The ADMT-ZN series groundwater detector requires precise USB connection and parameter configuration for accurate subsurface resistivity profiling. This guide covers the complete setup workflow: establishing USB communication between upper and lower computer systems, configuring data processing parameters (sampling channels, stacking times, depth range), and setting AI analysis parameters for automated aquifer identification. Proper connection is verified by a solid battery icon indicator in the software interface.

How to Connect the Water Finder?

The main software interface of the ADMT-ZN series groundwater detector displays options for USB, Serial Port, Hotspot, and Bluetooth connections. By default, the instrument is set to "USB Connection" upon shipment.

  • Verifying Connection: A solid battery icon in the top-right corner indicates normal communication between the instrument's upper and lower computer systems. If the icon is hollow or the menu does not show "USB Connection," manually select "USB Connection" from the menu.
  • Important Note: Although the pre-installed AIDU Water Finder software shows four connection modes, only "USB Connection" is functional for this series. Always ensure the connection mode is set to "USB Connection" before use.

 Instrument Settings

Access the "Instrument Settings" menu. This page displays the device model, ID number, and parameters for data processing, AI analysis, sampling channel count, stacking count, start depth, and end depth.

  • Device Model & ID: Verify that the displayed model matches your physical unit. The ID number is the unique identifier for售后服务 (after-sales service). If a red dot is displayed instead of the model/ID, the connection mode is incorrect; return to the main menu and set it to "USB Connection."

2.1 Unregistered/Logged-Out Users

Without logging in, users can view the device model and ID. However, Data Processing and AI Analysis parameters cannot be modified and remain at the model's "Default" settings. Configurable parameters include:

  • Sampling Channel Count: This must be set based on the number of daisy-chained cables connected for the measurement. Each cable supports 12 channels; a maximum of 5 cables (60 channels) can be used. (Cables are optional accessories).
    • Procedure:Click "Sampling Channel Count," then select the maximum number of channels for the current measurement. If no extra cables are connected, this value is 1.
  • Stacking Count (1-100, default: 5): A higher number increases data precision but also increases measurement time.
  • Start Depth: The depth to begin measurement. Must be less than the End Depth.
  • End Depth (Max Depth): The depth to end measurement. The maximum allowable depth varies by detector model.
  • After configuration, click "Set" to proceed, typically prompting a jump to the new measurement function.

2.2 Registered/Logged-In Users

Logged-in users can configure all the above parameters and have additional access to customize "Data Processing" and "AI Analysis" settings. These operations require an internet connection.

Data Processing Parameter Settings

Click "Data Processing" to access its settings interface, which includes:

  • Device Model: Confirm it matches your device.
  • Configuration Scheme: Choose from "Default," user-defined schemes under the account.
  • Synchronize Parameters: Download the product's default parameters or user-defined schemes from the cloud (requires internet).
  • Add Scheme: Create a custom configuration by modifying parameters and save it to your account for future use. Custom schemes can be tailored to specific regions or user preferences.
    • Data Correction: Removes outlier data points caused by interference. Adjustable for X (horizontal, between points), Y (vertical, depth/profile), and Z (overall data dimension) axes.
      • Correction Amplitude:Larger values lead to greater fluctuation in corrected data (e.g., 0.2 = ±20% fluctuation).
      • Correction Threshold:Larger values result in greater deviation for corrected "bad" points. Too high a threshold causes significant data shift; too low may yield inaccurate corrections.
    • Data Arrangement: Filters data across X, Y, Z dimensions. 0=Off, 1=On.
    • Data Smoothing: Reduces noise and smoothes curves. Options include 3-point, 5-point, 7-point smoothing, etc.
    • Apparent Resistivity Inversion: Normalizes and models raw data to derive a resistivity-like value ("apparent resistivity"). The model selection (typically 0.1-0.9) affects how quickly resistivity changes with depth; a higher model value means faster change. The model coefficient is usually 1 (0 skips this step).
  • Modify Scheme: Edit the parameters of the currently selected custom scheme.
  • Delete Scheme: Remove the selected custom scheme.

AI Analysis Parameter Settings

Click "AI Analysis" to access its settings (requires internet for some functions):

  • Device Model: Confirm it matches your device.
  • Parameter Type: Choose from "Default," "AI Recommended," or user-defined types.
  • Data Download: Synchronize the latest default, AI-recommended, or user-defined parameter types for the model.
  • Add:
    • Set a value range (1-99), interpreted as a percentage of the apparent resistivity data. For example, 5-20 defines the area containing the 5th to 20th percentile of the data as the "anomalous zone."
    • Set the number of anomalous regions for the AI to mark.
    • Click "Add" to save this custom parameter type.
  • Delete: Remove a user-defined parameter type (one at a time). Default and AI Recommended types cannot be deleted.
  • Confirm/Cancel: Save or discard the current settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: How do I verify the USB connection is successful?
A: A solid battery icon in the top-right corner confirms normal communication between the instrument's upper and lower computer systems.
Q2: What should I do if the connection fails?
A: Check the USB cable, manually select "USB Connection" from the menu, and restart the software if the battery icon remains hollow.
Q3: What is the difference between registered and unregistered user settings?
A: Registered users gain access to adjustable sampling channels, depth range, data correction, and AI analysis parameters.
Q4: Can I use wireless connection instead of USB?
A: The interface shows Serial, Hotspot, and Bluetooth options, but only USB connection is fully supported for the ADMT-ZN series.
Q5: What is the recommended stacking times setting?
A: For noisy environments, set stacking times to 16–32; for clean signals, 4–8 is sufficient to maintain survey speed.
